WRC – Daniel Oliveira Beat The Snow With Merits

February 13, 2012

In his first appearance in the Scandinavian round the Brazilian driver adjusted to a new environment and road conditions in the frozen Swedish and Norwegian scenarios which hosted the FIA World Rally Championship’s second round.

On board the STOHL RACING Class 3 Subaru Impereza the 26 year-old Salvador/BAHIA driver and codriver Carlos Magalhaes came up with some good results during the weekend which enabled them fight head to head against some of the local experts . The pair ran just a few kilometres of test prior to the event.

“It was a great weekend for me and the team. This was our first experience in this event and the outcome was positive. We finished the rally, which was our priority, and we ran many kilometers on this kind of road surface. But we also set some good stage times and we showed a good pace against the locals” summarized Oliveira.

In the final day of action, which went through to the East of Hagfors Service Park, Daniel and Carlos endured some ups and downs as they found trouble during the first loop of stages. “We had a good start by setting the sixth fastest time in the first stage, but on SS20 we hit a guide rail with the front right corner of the car and damaged part of the suspension  and one of the tyres” explained Daniel.

The crew was forced to stop in the middle of the stage and lost 11 minutes . They managed to get the car back on the road, and ran one more special stage with a bent suspension which affected the proper steering of the car before they headed back to the Service Park where  STHOL RACING mechanics fixed the problem during the midday service.

For the repeated stages Daniel enjoyed a trouble-free run and was able to recover the speed in the last three tests. He was the third fastest on SS22 while edged the Top-5 on SS23 and SS24, the Hagfors Power Stage with which the Rally Sweden came to an end.

“It was a good way to finish this great event. I enjoyed it very much and for sure I will come back next year.  We had a lot of fun” concluded Oliveira.
