V8 Supercars – Whincup Has One Hand On The Title

V8 Supercars

Bring on the Sydney Telstra 500 says  Jamie Whincup having put a  throttle-hold on the V8 Supercar Championship coming into the last  event of 2011 at Olympic  Park.

Again the Championship is open to  either Whincup or his team-mate Craig  Lowndes going into the Sydney race. But Lowndes’ fight is tough, now  trailing the leader by 188 points with 300 up for grabs in Sydney.

Both TeamVodafone drivers didn’t put  a foot wrong today at the Norton 360 Sandown  Challenge in Melbounre but Whincup’s slightly better qualifying led to a  start-to-finish victory with Lowndes fourth behind FPR pair Mark Winterbottom and Will  Davison.

Had it not been for Lowndes’ incredible heroics of Saturday to come from 27th to fifth in dire  conditions Whincup may well already have the trophy in the cabinet. But Lowndes  lives to fight another day at least in Sydney.

“I think the last two weeks were  pivotal,” Whincup said.

“I believe this race won the  Championship last year with James  Courtney. If there was one time I needed to get off the line it  was today.

“For Sydney we will do what we have done all year.  It (Sydney) is a  huge event for our sponsor Vodafone so we need to balance that out. We had a  quick car there last year and I led the race until the rain fell out of the sky  and we all shunted.

“We just need to complete the job.  We will be good to go and make sure that I get, yeah, enough  points.”

Neither Whincup nor Lowndes have  been on the podium at the Sydney Telstra 500.

In their way might be Winterbottom  and Davison who have had cracking finishes to the year. Winterbottom’s Orccon  Steel Falcon is flying, as is Will  Davison’s Trading Post V8 Supercar.

“We had a good day, we tried our  best. We are not far off,” said Winterbottom.

“We have definitely made massive  inroads and come along way. After Sydney we need to start next year the way we  have finished.”

One of the greatest nights in  Australian rock will ensure the Sydney Telstra 500 remains the City’s premiere  sporting event, set to break all records from the first two years of the rock  and race extravaganza.

The absolute greats of Australian  rock will appear on the same card on the Saturday night, 3rd of  December.

One of the country’s legendary bands  Hunters & Collectors is reforming for a one-off and once only concert after  13 years and the “Voice” John Farnham is playing his only major outdoor concert  of the year.

The incredible Noiseworks is also  set to rock and James Reyne will perform his unforgettable  hits.

The Sydney Telstra 500 is three-days  of awesome, non-stop entertainment combining a hair-raising street race with two  nights of sensational concerts.  Public transport is also included with pre purchase ticket on select  services.

In 2011, the popular Armor All Auto  Show promises to be Australia’s largest private car show  with private collectors showing off some priceless vehicles from every part of  the country.

From rare cars to cartoons coming to  life, car fans of all ages are in for an awesome experience as Disney.Pixar’s  CARS Truck Tour makes its final V8 Supercar stop at the Sydney Telstra 500.  A world-first attraction, the CARS Truck  Tour is a mobile themed attraction housed both inside and outside of a life-size  MACK the Transporter.
