September 6, 2011

Peter van Merksteijn jr takes part in this weekend held completely renewed WRC Rally Australia. Behind the wheel of his Citroën DS3 WRC, the Van Merksteijn Motorsport driver will start on Thursday evening together with his co-driver Erwin Mombaerts from Coffs Harbour for this beautiful rally. The rally he has been looking forward to from the start of this season.

After the outstanding performance by Peter jr. during the previous WRC Rally Deutschland where he finished in 9th place and scored his first championship points, he is looking forward and confident about this rally on the other side of the world. “The result which we achieved in Germany was fantastic. It was a big moral boost for the entire team and we can’t wait to start this rally on a completely new continent for us.”

De WRC Rally Australia has been from the start of the season the event Peter jr. Has been looking forward to. It is a completely new event for all competitors after it has been relocated to Coffs Harbour, a city between Brisbane and Sydney on the eastern shores of the continent. The experienced WRC drivers will this time not have the benefit of knowing the special stages from previous editions as is often the case. “I am very excited to be competing in this event. When we sat down together to make our schedule for this year, I immediately said that Australia was a must. This is a great opportunity to drive a rally here.”

For the 2011 edition of the Rally Australia 26 special stages are planned with a total length of 370 kilometer.  With the short spectator stage in Coffs Harbour, which will be run twice, the rally will kick off on Thursday evening and on the following Friday and Saturday this stage will again be the end of a day’s rallying. The Power Stage Clarence will be broadcasted live on television and forms the final stage of the Rally Australia on Sunday afternoon.
