Ford Performance Racing (FPR) now has its very own royal couple after Will Davison’s new #6 Trading Post FPR Falcon was christened ‘Kate’ following an internal Trading Post staff competition to name the new chassis.

FPR’s ‘Will and Kate’ met for the first time earlier today after Davison flew back into the country following a brief mid-season break in the United Kingdom where he sadly was unable to catch-up with the real life Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Princess Catherine (Kate).

‘Kate’ –formally known as FPR-1010 – is the 13th chassis built by FPR since its inception.

Davison said although he doubted Australia’s Will and Kate would attract as much attention as the English equivalent, he believes the improved performance of his new car will doubtless bring its own headlines.

“I have never really named my race cars, though with a brand new car I guess I start a new tradition and Kate is a good choice,” the factory Ford driver said.

“I’ve just spent 10 days in the UK and I wasn’t too far from Buckingham Palace so I guess that makes me close to royalty.

“Names aside, my new car is just that – all-new from the ground up. It has all our latest developments and I am really looking forward to giving it its first laps at Winton tomorrow.

Queensland Raceway will allow me to adapt to it ahead of the enduros so we should be well-placed for Phillip Island, Bathurst and the run home to the Telstra Sydney 500.”

Trading Post Racing manager, Andrew Clifford said the staff competition to name the new car had thrown up some interesting choices, but he felt Kate was appropriate.

“Many people name their cars when they first get them so we felt we should start a tradition with our first all-new chassis at FPR,” Clifford said.
“Will and Kate are certainly the couple of the moment overseas and we hope our new pairing is equally as popular. Hopefully they can soon be crowned race winners.”

Davison and Kate will make their race debut this weekend at the Ipswich 300 which is scheduled to run 19-21 August.
