Formula Ford – Foster Jumps To Second With Eastern Creek Race Win

Steeline-backed driver Nick Foster has jumped to second place in the 2011 Australian Formula Ford Championship points standings after taking victory in the final race of Round 3 of the season at Eastern Creek Raceway in Sydney, New South Wales over the weekend.

Foster turned around a tough weekend to grab his first race win for the 2011 championship in the Race 3 at Eastern Creek, also giving his second overall for the round behind Sonic Motor Racing team-mate Cam Waters.

The weekend began with seventh place for Foster in changeable weather conditions. While his #2 Steeline Mygale was on top of the timesheets in the wet, a drying track hurt Foster’s chances and saw him qualify in seventh place.

Foster earned two top five results in the opening two races of the weekend, before rising to the occasion for the final race to take his first win since the Symmons Plains event last November.

Foster lies 42 points behind Waters in the points standings, but with five rounds still remaining in this year’s championship, Foster is not giving up on his title hopes.

Round 4 of the 2011 Australian Formula Ford Championship will be held at the Coates Hire Ipswich 300 at Queensland Raceway on August 19-21.

NICK FOSTER – #2 Steeline Mygale (Sonic Motor Racing):

“It was an up and down weekend for our Steeline car but it was good to end on a high with a race win,” said Foster.

“The wet qualifying hurt us. I was fast when the track was wet and looking a good chance for pole for most of the session. But when the track dried out we dropped down the order.

“I was disappointed to start down in seventh in Race 1 but we just had to make the most of it and work even harder.

“We got up to fourth in Race 1 but in the second race we had the engine cover come loose, which meant we could only finish fifth.

“It wasn’t ideal to start from the third row in the final race but I made a good start and was into third by the second corner.

“From there I made a move on Tom Williamson to get to second and then I put my head down to concentrate on chasing down Cam (Waters).

“With two laps to go I got in front of him and held on to take the win. It’s a great reward for the hard work of the team and all my sponsors.

“The next event is at Queensland Raceway in Ipswich. It’s a track I have raced at many times as I grew up not far from the circuit.

“Hopefully there we can close the points gap to Cam. We still have five rounds to go so we’ll be giving it everything to keep pushing forward.”
