After threatening with pole positions and fastest laps throughout the year, Kevin Weeks and Supaloc Racing have broken through for their first race win in the Australian GT Championship, taking victory in Race 2, Round 4 of the series on the streets of Townsville yesterday.

Despite being allocated sixth position on the rolling grid, Weeks was elevated to fifth before the race even started, due to Greg Crick starting from pit-lane. Weeks moved up to third on the opening lap, before overtaking Peter Hackett on Lap 2 and Klark Quinn on Lap 5. From there, he pulled away, breaking his own lap record on Lap 7 and eventually taking the chequered flag almost seven seconds clear of the field.

“The car was just magnificent today,” an ecstatic Weeks said after the race. “Over the weekend, we tuned the suspension to improve the handling of the car and by the time we reached the races, it was sensational. It looked after its tyres really well, and I was able to maintain a consistently quick pace throughout the race.

“It is an absolute credit to the team that we have been able to develop the car to the stage where it is capable of finishing right at the front.”

Supaloc Racing Technical Director Oscar Fiorinotto was also very excited about the result.

“While Kevin has been very happy with the car this weekend, his driving has been outstanding. His performance in the race today is about the best he has driven the car since he’s started racing in the GT Championship,” Fiorinotto said.

“He gave us some useful feedback after the practice and qualifying sessions, from which we were able to tune the Supashock Suspension to improve the car’s balance for the race.”

Greg Crick also turned in an impressive drive in his Supashock-suspended Dodge Viper. After starting from pit-lane, Crick stormed through the field, setting the second-fastest lap of the race en route to a finishing position of fourth.
