The Toll Holden Racing Team’s Garth Tander has taken an emphatic victory in today’s first race at the Townsville 400 in Far North Queensland. Tander has been on the podium in all five races run at the Reid Park circuit, however today was his first time on the top step. He was pleased to take the win for the team after a tough event three weeks ago in Darwin.

Tander’s team-mate, James Courtney, wasn’t as fortunate. Courtney experienced a difficult qualifying session which saw him only set the 19th fastest time. Starting back in the pack, he was making strong progress before contact mid race damaged the steering of the #1 Commodore. The damage was quickly repaired, however only a few laps later he was in the pits again, his day was done.

Today’s win was the 199th for the Toll Holden Racing Team. The Sucrogen Townsville 400 wraps up tomorrow with qualifying and a final 200km race.
