Monster World Rally Team‘s Ken Block, for the second year in a row, wins the “Most Thrilling Driver” award at the Goodwood Festival of Speed for his awesome display of hooning up the legendary driveway-turned-hillclimb on Lord March’s West Sussex estate. The award, presented by Veuve Clicquot, is given to the driver who puts on the best show for the over 150,000 motorsport fans that gather at the annual event. Block’s always sideways, smoke filled runs this year secured the notorious title once again for the Hoonigan.

“Winning an award for hooning last year, was such a surprise,” says Block. “It’s not often that you are awarded for destroying a man’s lawn, let alone a Lord’s lawn, so I was determined to own the title again this year, and I am thrilled to have retained it. I absolutely love this event, but why wouldn’t I? It’s three days of getting to thrash both my WRC and Gymkhana Fiestas around. Even if I didn’t get an award for it, it would still be a win!”
The Goodwood Festival of Speed is an annual event held at the estate of England’s Lord March—an avid enthusiast of all things fast—who invites a select group of racers and racecars every summer to come and attack his 1.2-mile long driveway in a casual hillclimb format. Block spent his time at the Festival going back and forth between two very different cars: his Gymkhana THREE Ford Fiesta and his Ford Fiesta RS WRC that he campaigns in the World Rally Championship. While Block ran both cars up the 1.2-mile course, he also spent the afternoons of the festival doing passes on the Forest Stages located at the top of the property, demonstrating for the crowd just what his current WRC car is capable of.
“One of the things I really enjoyed this year was that I was able to run both cars,” said Block. “My Gymkhana car is a ton of fun and the crowd loves it, but Lord March has this great rally stage on his property, and after last year I knew I had to bring a car to run on it in addition to just doing the hillclimb. It made for a hectic schedule but it was a lot of fun.
As part of the promotions for the Festival of Speed, the Monster World Rally Team collaborated with Goodwood on a special, one-off poster just for the event that was exclusively distributed during autograph signings with Block. MWRT also collaborated with DC Shoes on a limited-edition Goodwood t-shirt and a unique take on Block’s skull logo in sticker form.
Block’s next event will be the first stop on his own Gymkhana World Tour, taking place in Vienna, Austria, July 10th. Until then, follow the team at monsterworldrallyteam.com, facebook.com/KenBlockRacing and facebook.com/MonsterWorldRallyTeam.
