What was old will be new again when German ace Marc Lieb joins his former Porsche teammate Alex Davison for the Armor All Gold Coast 600 on the streets of Surfers Paradise on October 21-23.

Lieb, one of Europe’s most respected drivers and a current factory Porsche driver, will partner with Davison in the IRWIN Falcon, prepared on the Gold Coast by Stone Brothers Racing.

Lieb had the perfect preparation for the Gold Coast event with his fourth outright win in five years in the famous Nürburgring 24 hour race at the weekend – winning the event in a 911 GT3 RSR Porsche for Manthey Racing alongside Lucas Luhr, Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas.

Lieb and Davison were teammates in the Porsche factory team in the 2008 European Le Mans Series in in which they finished second outright in GT2 – with Davison returning home the following year to join SBR.

Lieb joins this year’s Indy 500 pole sitter Alex Tagliani, fellow European stars Andy Priaulx and Dirk Müller and US gun Joey Hand to be confirmed in the Armor All Gold Coast 600 field with the remaining 23 drivers being announced in coming weeks.

A world-class field of 18 internationals took to the track as co-drivers with regular V8 Supercar drivers last year – the number increases to 28 this year with every Supercar including an international star.

The international stars will team-up with home-grown Australian talent such as Craig Lowndes, Mark Winterbottom, Jamie Whincup, James Courtney, Steve Johnson, Jason Bright, Will Davison, Russell Ingall, Garth Tander and Rick Kelly.

This year’s event will not only include some of the biggest names in world motorsport, but also from the world of entertainment with the event’s Rock and Race format to continue with nightly concerts at the Broadwater Parklands entertainment precinct.

“Attracting this calibre of driver to team up with local Alex Davison is another coup for the Armor All Gold Coast 600 and Queensland,” said Queensland Minister for Sport, Phil Reeves.

“Even with his international track experience, I’m sure Marc Lieb will find the V8’s and the Gold Coast circuit a challenge.

“This event is proof that V8 Supercar racing on the Gold Coast is well and truly on the international calendar and the Queensland Government is a proud sponsor.

“Attracting world class drivers to the Armor All Gold Coast 600 shows that Queensland is a Superstate for hosting V8 Supercars.”
