Qualifying could not have gone much worse for Jana Living Racing at Darwin’s Hidden Valley today but Jason Bargwanna still stormed through the field for a top ten finish.

Starting dead-last Bargs put in some lightning laps on his hard tyres until lap 47, when he pitted for softs. When a late safety car was called on lap 58 his rubber was relatively fresh compared to those around him and he was able to capitalise on the restart.

He picked off three cars, including Michael Caruso and Lee Holdsworth, to finish tenth at the chequered flag.

The next V8 Supercar round is in Townsville from 8-10 July.

“We passed a lot of cars in the first part of the race. After the first safety car there were cars running off and bashing each other up. I thought ‘we’re only half way through this race’ and knew we were a chance for a good result.

“Obviously the safety car helped us at the end there by bunching the field up and I passed another three cars to get up to P10. She was well and truly out of tyres at the end there; we timed it all just right.

“To be able to recover from our dramas in qualifying to get two top tens over the weekend is just phenomenal; it’s what we need at the moment.”
