WRC – Chevaillier Admitted To Hospital With Back Worries

June 18, 2011

This morning during the Acropolis Rally, Peter van Merksteijn jr. and co-driver Eddy Chevaillier had an accident on the third stage, Eleftherohori, with the Citroën DS3 WRC with start number 14. While braking the bottom of the car smashed violently on a large rock on the road after which both drivers immediately complained about pain in their backs. Eddy has left the car by himself and laid down on his back alongside the road. De organization of the rally stopped the running of the stage temporarily as a result of the accident to enable the marshals and medical staff to travel to the scene and devote their attention to the drivers.

Both were transported by ambulance to a local hospital for precautionary examination. As a result of the findings of the medical staff and their wish to admit Eddy for observation, the team has decided to transport him immediately by helicopter to a hospital in Athens where he can get the best medical care available. Peter van Merksteijn jr. was able to leave the hospital early in the evening.
