Turn One became a battlefield on lap 40 of today’s 42-lap race, with Karl Reindler becoming a casualty of the drama that saw front-runners throw it away in Darwin.

Leader Mark Winterbottom was mobbed on the restart of a safety car period, going into Turn One four-abreast. The action ended in disaster for Frosty, who was spun around mid-corner directly in the path of Reindler’s Fair Dinkum Sheds Racing Commodore.

Unable to avoid him, Reindler sustained damage to the radiator and was forced to park up.

Qualifying for tomorrow’s race starts at midday.

“Everyone went off at the first corner. I had fresher tyres and I went to the inside. Frosty spun around and was facing me parked on the track. I had nowhere to go and damaged the radiator. I just had to park it. It’s just one of those days.

“Before that I was driving the car as carefully and precisely and tentatively as I could and the tyres just weren’t hanging on. They weren’t our best set though so hopefully it will be better tomorrow.”
