Cautious driving earned Jason Bargwanna a top ten position at Darwin’s Hidden Valley today, despite starting P17.

The Jana Living Racing driver capitalised on a dramatic finale to today’s 42-lap race, which saw leaders Mark Winterbottom, Jamie Whincup, Lee Holdsworth and Shane Van Gisbergen go into Turn One side-by-side on the restart of a lap-37 safety car.

There were several casualties, including Winterbottom and Whincup, and Bargs’ conservative driving earlier in the race ensured his tyres were in prime condition to pick off a few more to finish eighth.

“I was very patient throughout the middle of the race and it paid off at the end when all the guys in front just threw it away in the last few laps.

“After that last safety car I had better tyres. Obviously the guys in front had been fighting and I had been keeping it clean and the car was really fast in the last ten laps.

“Shane Van Gisbergen was just too quick though and I didn’t want to put up a fight and risk a good finish. I need to bag some points at the moment.”
