V8 Supercars

Q. Jason, back to back V8 Supercar wins at Barbagallo & Winton, congratulations! How does it feel to be spraying so much champagne from the top of the podium this season?

A. It feels great to be back in the winning circle. The last few years have been difficult in several ways and to finally be in a position to be winning races week-in-week-out is very satisfying.

Q. Coming out of the pits at Winton in 15th place, did you ever imagine that you would be able to make up such massive chunks of time, and then pass Jamie Whincup?

A. Yes. I knew we had the pace to work our way to the front on Sunday. With the tyre life that we had, and being able to pit so late, it gave us a very big advantage for that shorter last stint. The trick was to be able to get past all the cars without getting any damage

Q. How to you rate this win alongside all your other successes in motorsport?

A. It was definitely one of my best. It’s not so often you have to pass so many cars to get a win. Usually you have to start on the first couple of rows to score a win in this series, so starting from 8th and then doing it the hard way shows how much race pace we have at the moment.

Q. We saw Jason Richards share the top step on the podium with you, what kind of a lift does it have to the team to have him around and on the road to recovery?

A. It was great to have JR at Winton to share the win. JR’s just a fun guy to have around and the team’s always upbeat when he’s there.

Q. And for the rest of the season, with the speed of your car do you feel like you can catch Jamie Whincup for the Driver’s Championship?

A. Absolutely. I’ve not doubt we’ve got the speed at the moment to win plenty of races for the remainder of this year. But to make up the 300-point gap to Jamie I’ll need a little more help.

Q. In Perth you secured the first ever win for Team BOC, what did it mean to you to deliver their first ever win?

A. It meant a lot. I said coming into 2010 that I believe we have all the ingredients we need to turn BJR into a race winning team and it would only be a matter of time. I believe that we’re now seeing all those ingredients used to their full potential

Q. After the race Brad Jones was ecstatic, what’s it like to work with Brad? Is he the same behind closed doors as he is on TV?

A. Brad’s the best boss I’ve ever had. Not long stepped out of the seat himself, he understands the game very well from the drivers’ point of view. He’s got a lot of energy and enthusiasm for what he does and there’s never a dull moment when he’s around.

And finally…

Q. Any car on any track in the world. What would you choose? And why!!??

A. F1 car on Spa FrancorchampsRedbull. It’s the best F1 car at the moment on a great track that demonstrates how good an F1 car is.
