Matt Brabham has taken his first Australian Formula Ford Championship race victory during round two at Winton Motor Raceway.

The grandson of Sir Jack Brabham dominated the first race of the weekend from pole position to lead home a Team Sonic white-wash with Garry Jacobson and Cameron Waters second and third respectively.

“I was really happy to take pole position this morning and to lead the race from start to finish was very pleasing,” Brabham said.

“It’s my first national series round this year and my first race was a victory, which is exciting, but I’m focused on finishing on a strong note tomorrow as well.

“To be honest it’s probably a little bit of a surprise to come away with the win in my first weekend back and I really need to thank Team Sonic for helping me get the best from the car.”

Teammate Jacobson was second, taking his first career podium at his home race with a smooth and consistent drive.

“I’ve always wanted to have a good result at my home circuit, so it’s a big relief to achieve that today, said the Shepparton based driver.

“It’s nice to know that I have what it takes to mix it with the fastest guys in the championship and I’m now looking forward to pushing for my first victory tomorrow.”

Fellow Mygale driver Waters was third in race one, but lamented the lack of passing opportunities around the tight and twisty circuit.

“I had good speed in the Linde car, but it’s really hard to pass here at Winton, so I elected to conserve my tyres for the rest of the weekend,” Waters said. “I am feeling good in the car, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow to see what we can do.”

Nick Foster completed the Team Sonic white-wash in fourth ahead of Spectrum drivers Liam Sager and Mathew Hart, while Jack LeBrocq, Shae Davies, Adam Graham and Jesse Fenech rounded out the top 10.

Round 2 of the series continues with races two and three tomorrow at Winton Motor Raceway.
