Mygale driver Cameron Waters has finished on top of the time sheets at Winton Motor Raceway during practice for round two of the Australian Formula Ford Championship.

The Mildura-based driver was quickest in the morning session, producing a time that was not bettered throughout the day.

Friday’s practice sessions were dominated by Team Sonic with Nick Foster and Matthew Brabham finishing second and third fastest just behind Waters.

“The car was really really good this morning, but the track changed a lot in the second session and we didn’t react to it,” said Waters who was fourth fastest in the afternoon.

“Still, I’m pretty happy with the start to the weekend and I’m really looking forward to qualifying tomorrow because I think we’ll be very strong.”

Foster was consistent across the day, placing second in both sessions and was relishing being back in his Mygle.

“It’s great to be back in the car after a couple of months away from racing and it’s nice to be at Winton where we always get plenty of laps across the weekend,” Foster said.

“The track changed a lot during the day, but it was a good result for the team with Sonic cars first, second, third and fourth and for us with second, so I think it will be a good weekend.”

Brabham returned to the national Formula Ford series this weekend, having stepped back to focus on his year 12 studies this year.

“I’m really enjoying working with Team Sonic and I think we’ve proved so far that it can be a good relationship. I made the decision to step to the state series this year to focus on school, but it is nice to be competitive against the national guys straight away this weekend.”

Local Shepparton driver Garry Jacobson was fourth fastest, ahead of Synergy Motorsport drivers Shae Davies, Mathew Hart and Liam Sager. National Series debutant Jordan Lloyd was eighth ahead of Adam Graham and Jack LeBrocq.

Round 2 of the series continues with qualifying and race one tomorrow at Winton Motor Raceway.
