V8 Supercars

Ahead of this weekend’s Clipsal 500, the Orrcon Steel-supported Ford Performance Racing team have been hard at work on a secret weapon they think will march them toward the head of the pack around Adelaide’s streets.

Team members were remaining tight-lipped about the project, only to say that they were incorporating some of Orrcon Steel’s newest technology into the project that’s in it’s infancy – fitting as Orrcon’s key manufacturing facility is nearby the Adelaide Parklands Street Circuit.

Winterbottom – who’s been away from the workshop after wife, Renee gave birth to son Oliver – was playing it coy.

“I don’t know, to be honest,” he said. “I was in here last week and Tim (Edwards) said the boys had a new component that was in it’s early stages of development they were bolting on for Adelaide. Apparently they thought about putting it on the car at the test day, I still don’t know if they did.

“If it was on, it seemed to work, as we saw some growth in some key areas that we struggled in last year. I don’t know if it’s going on Will’s car, but he’s new here and you have to crawl before you walk and we need to properly evaluate it, I guess.

“Tim wouldn’t give me any more information, except that it was important to the engineers and designers. He said it was their baby.”
